American Sign Language (ASL) Teacher (High School)

Quick Apply Full-time Part-time 52 minutes ago Full Job Description The New School of Northern Virginia (www.
newschoolva.
org) seeks a thought-provoking high school ASL teacher for the upcoming school year.
Most teachers at The New School teach multiple subjects, and we welcome applicants who would be able to teach an additional subject (e.
g.
, English/humanities, foreign language, computer science, PE, etc.
) beyond ASL.
The position is offered part-time (ASL only) or full-time (ASL
additional subject).
We are a small, college-preparatory school with small classes (8-10 students average).
In many respects, our school may be described as a high school version of a small liberal arts college.
A central goal of The New School is to teach students to use their minds well.
Our teachers recognize the variety of ways students learn and use tools of authentic assessment to evaluate essential skills and concepts.
Most critically, a special kind of intellectual and personal equality exists in the teacher-student relationship that allows students to take charge of their education and see themselves as successful, creative learners.
Teaching in such an environment takes a special kind of person - one who is thoughtful, thought provoking, and above all committed to seeing the students take ownership of their education.
We especially value teachers who can teach across disciplines.
The salary is commensurate with the nature of the position as part-time or full-time.
We offer a very nice benefits package (health insurance, 403b retirement plan) for full-time employees.
If interested in applying, please send us a resume and cover letter explaining how your experience and approach to student learning make you a good fit for our program and school.
Please indicate, too, if you are applying as a part-time or full-time candidate.
Thanks very much for your interest in The New School.
