The Director of Development for the College of Engineering and Computing will report to the Senior Director of Advancement, and is responsible for implementing strategies that will increase CEC's portfolio of corporate and individual donors.
This position will develop and lead a comprehensive program engaging corporate prospects and donors and will actively establish long-term relationships and strengthen the existing relationship with the Mason community to result in funding for CEC priorities.
As George Mason University embarks on a historic comprehensive campaign, CEC seeks a Director of Development to develop fundraising priorities and strategies to manage the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donor prospects with the potential to make major gifts to the priorities of CEC while seeking to build a culture of philanthropy with the university.
Responsibilities:
Maintain personal portfolio and support comprehensive fundraising program;Support successful execution of a comprehensive fundraising program that appropriately partners with and leverages resources from the central Advancement team to accomplish objectives;Develop strategies and implementation of major and principal gifts for corporate prospects for CEC, in concert with central Advancement Corporate & Foundations team;Design, implement, and manage a tiered approach for organizing and prioritizing outreach strategies and activities to target high-priority and high-value corporate and foundation partnerships;Identify emerging business leadership and industry trends with a special emphasis on developing high-value corporate alliances, with the ultimate goal to identify, cultivate, and solicit five-, six- and ultimately seven-plus-figure philanthropic commitments to support the mission and goals of the university;Assist the Sr.
Director of Advancement to redesign the CEC Corporate Partner program for CEC and manage the program once established;Identify and initiate opportunities for faculty, administrators, and deans to interact with corporate and foundation prospects in order to match their interests with various university constituencies;Coordinate with department Capstone faculty on corporate support to Capstone projects;Carry and maintain a portfolio of prospects that are being moved through the donor engagement process culminating in, MAJOR or PRINCIPAL gifts (as defined by George Mason's Advancement team);Actively engage each prospect in their portfolio to ensure prospect movement and portfolio penetration annually;Meet or exceed all metrics and expectations set by Central Advancement;Travel as necessary for donor outreach and cultivation;Assist with planning and implementation of college efforts to raise individual, corporate, and foundation funds; andLead and supervise Major Gift staff in CEC Advancement team expected to be hired next year.
Required
Qualifications:
Master's degree in a related field and demonstrated successful professional advancement and/or fundraising-related experience, preferably in higher education; or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skill, and abilities have been achieved;Excellent research, writing, and interpersonal communication skills;A creative approach to involve and solicit major donor prospects and possess the ability to motivate;Demonstrated experience with personnel management;Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and experience with documenting appropriate information in a donor management database system;Possess a valid driver's license; ability to travel independently and work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends;Demonstrated professional advancement and/or fundraising-related experience with a record of successful major gift solicitations and experience designing and executing donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies; andExperience managing multiple projects simultaneously and meeting continuous deadlines.
