About the Position:
The Technical and Rigging Supervisor provides comprehensive execution and supervision of carpentry and rigging elements for all activities of the College of Visual and Performing Arts comprising the CFA Subscription series, academic departments, divisions, and programs, GMU events and rentals as scheduled in the CVPA performance facilities.
This position supervises and performs the operation and setup of all staging and rigging equipment for Concert Hall events.
Responsibilities:
Serve as on-site technical supervisor/rigging supervisor for all Concert Hall events and adjunct activities; Supervise the Lead Technician.
Supervise all stage preparations to include the setup and construction of staging and rigging equipment to meet artist and company technical requirements; Coordinate personnel and equipment to fulfill event parameters.
Execute events within established budgets; Develop and implement the annual maintenance and inventory program for staging and rigging equipment for the Center for the Arts; Assist the Production Manager and the Lead Technician with the preparation and monitoring of the annual budget for equipment maintenance, service and repair; Plan for special initiatives and projects, and perform the work as required for the replacement, repair, rehabilitation and installation of stage equipment and systems; Perform occasional operation of stage equipment such as lighting and sound equipment needed to facilitate rehearsals and performances; Perform general stage duties including stage management or technical direction for the preparation and restoration of facilities and equipment; Participate in regular staff, event and production meetings; Coordinate carpentry department needs with other production personnel and related departments for effective overall management; and Provide instruction and/or mentoring for students with interest in carpentry, staging and rigging.
Required
Qualifications:
Training in shop carpentry, stage carpentry, rigging, and theatre technology; Knowledge of shop and stage carpentry, rigging, technical theatre, music, drama, and dance idioms; Proficiency in carpentry and rigging to meet requirements of varied performance artists, musicians, dancers, etc.
; Ability to setup, operate, and maintain scenery and props, and staging and rigging systems and equipment; and Intermediate shop and stage carpentry; intermediate rigging; advanced generalist in theatre technology.
