Area Director of Accounting

This position is responsible for oversight and support of our hotels that utilize our companies centralized accounting services. Successful individual will need a strong background in the hospitality industry.
Responsible for ensuring completion of the monthly closing process for approximately 10 hotels to ensure reporting deadlines are met as required by the Fairfax corporate office and management agreements
Responsible for reviewing hotels balance sheet reconciliations on a periodic basis
Responsible for ensuring timely completion of all reports required by regulatory agencies
Responsible for ensuring successful internal audit and SOX compliance
Responsible for maintaining excellent relations with ownership groups, corporate office, hotel staff, and outside firms/vendors
Responsible for attending ownership meetings as required
Must be able to balance accounting knowledge with excellent and proven leadership skills in strategic planning regarding staff, process improvements, and system enhancements
Assist VP Hotel Accounting & Finance and RVP's in short and long term strategy planning to assist hotels in achieving budgeted results.
Responsible in providing assistance to the General Manager's in forecasting and budgeting
Review analysis of accounting activities, costs, operations, and forecast data in relation to property and company goals.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs and other applicable programs
Proven administrative and leadership skills
Effective oral and written communication skills
The ability to perform multiple tasks and maintain flexibility with priorities
Proficiency in training, coaching and counseling abilities
Proven ability to manage resources effectively
Proven ability to effectively identify and solve problems within specified time constraints
Demonstrated proficiency to objectively analyze and prioritize complex challenges
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required along with a demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects and responsibilities.
Knowledgeable with current hospitality accounting procedures and GAAP
Ability in building strong relationships with other disciplines throughout the company
Knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley
Ability to work with minimal direct supervision
Ability to present information and respond to questions from groups, managers, owners, and customers
Education and/or Training:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
2-3 years experience in the hospitality industry as a Director of Finance, Centralized Controller, or Area position.
Working Conditions:
Normal Office Environment
Travel necessary for approximately 30%-50% of total working time

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
