This is a high visibility position that will report directly to the Senior Vice President of OperationsThis position is a combination of an experienced director level manager and a hands-on implementation and integration specialist, who must be capable of managing and also performing intensive software development when required, supervising a geographically separated technical team and coordinating directly other corporate divisions for core platform development libraries, services, and datasets.
You will manage the design and implementation of efficient, scalable and performance-ready services and applications.
Previous exposure to various software development methodologies and extensive knowledge of multi-threaded, memory- and disk-intensive C+
and Java server development highly desired.
Must be able to demonstrate prior leadership ability in terms of both technical and project successes.
Management
Responsibilities:
o Build, lead, and grow a high performing team of software developers.
o Synthesize product briefs from marketing into a tactical design requirements document providing the team with clear direction & deliverables.
o Oversee a team in the design of high value capabilities from initial concept, through production launch, ensuring on time & cost completion.
o Manage cross-functional design reviews and evaluations, and determine if products are ready for commercialization.
o Oversee and assist with product and design change validation and documentation including configuration changes.
o Develop Product Management process flow and procedures, at the Portfolio level, and undertake Continuous Improvement activities to ensure best practices are used within department.
o Perform resource planning and alignment to ensure maximum efficiency.
Additional
Responsibilities:
o Hands on development of well-documented applications to meet government business needs.
o Source code review and integration of externally developed libraries and datasets.
o Participation in periodic software development meetings following agile development process.
o Analysis and discussion of internal standards and patterns with architecture team members in other SDL corporate divisions.
o Strong multi-tasking skills and the ability to self-teach are must-have attributes.
o Candidates must be able to communicate well within a team environment and also work independently on self-directed tasks.
In addition to general server development in C+
and Java, there are opportunities and needs for expertise over multiple areas of software development and computer science disciplines:
Python, Scala, Perl, Boost, 0mq, SOAP, REST, XML including TMX and XLIFF, string encoding, regular expressions, statistical computing, document filtering with layout analysis and preservation.
Requirements:
o Bachelor's degree in Computer Science (or similar).
o 3
years of experience in managing successful product teams.
o 5 or more years of recent experience working with C+
and Java servers, APIs and other applications solving problems that require complex, multi-threaded, high-performance solutions.
o Expertise with current development techniques and a strong ability to debug, extend, and refactor existing code.
o Experience with both Linux and Windows environments and tools.
o Experience and desire to learn more about other languages such as Python, C#, Scala, Javascript, and others.
Desired:
Active Secret or higher clearance.
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
