Actuarial Scientist/ Risk Analyst Intern

Job Description
Dewberry is seeking an intern(s) for an Actuarial Scientist / Risk Analyst. This position will mostly focus on data analytics, statistical analysis, loss modeling and other technical analyses in support of the National Flood Insurance Program and/or other related projects in our Fairfax, VA office. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual to join a team of professionals while working in a multidisciplinary consulting and engineering firm. The position offers great potential for professional growth and continuation into full-time employment upon graduation. Typical responsibilities are to work on water resources projects for federal, state and local clients.
Responsibilities
Technical responsibilities include:
Statistical analysis
Problem definition, data collection, data cleaning, present findings;
Regression analysis and probability modeling;
Time series analysis;
Propensity score analysis;
Capture and analyze data;
Create and manipulate databases;
Data Analytics
Data mining/machine learning;
Data visualization
Econometrics
Checking for technical accuracy of project deliverables and associated reports;
Coordinating with the project team, project managers, clients, local communities, and other contractors to compile all data necessary to produce the most up-to-date product
Required Skills & Required Experience
Required Skills:
In process of attaining Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science or related field having completed 3rd year (Junior) of studies.
0 to 3 years of experience in the Actuarial Science field (preferably with insurance experience).
Conceptual knowledge of applied statistical methods, economics construction and evaluation of actuarial models.
Strong MS Excel and MS Access skills to leverage various data sources
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Desired Skills:
Recent graduate or pursuing Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science with plan to pursue Society of Actuaries (SOA) professional exam certification
Geographic Information Systems experience with the ESRI platform (ArcGIS).
Knowledge of the National Flood Insurance Program is preferred
Innovation, enthusiasm, and creativity - ability to develop new ideas and to chart a path
Ability to effectively juggle multiple tasks concurrently

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
