IMMIGRATION SERVICES ANALYST
Relocation expenses are authorized if you are a USCIS employee assigned to the Refugee, Asylum and International Operations program and have been approved for rotation from an overseas assignment. Relocation expenses for USCIS employees assigned to an OCONUS location will be considered on a case-by-case basis. GS-05:
You qualify at the GS-05 level if you possess three years of progressively responsible experience, one year of which was equivalent to the GS-04 level in the federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the following duties:
Analyzing problems to identify significant factors, gathering pertinent data, and recognizing solutions; planning and organizing work; and communicating effectively orally and in writing. Such experience may have been gained in administrative, professional, technical, investigative, or other responsible work. Experience in substantive and relevant secretarial, clerical, or other responsible work may be qualifying as long as it provided evidence of the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position to be filled. Experience of a general clerical nature (typing, filing, routine procedural processing, maintaining records, or other non-specialized tasks) is not creditable. OR You may substitute successful completion of a full four-year course of study in any field leading to a bachelor's degree for the experience required at the GS-05 level. This education must have been obtained from an accredited college or university. One year of full-time undergraduate study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45-quarter hours. GS-07:
In addition to the requirements at the lower grade level(s), you qualify at the GS-07 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-05 level in the federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the following duties:
Performing developmental assignments under the close guidance of a higher level analyst that provide exposure to a wide variety of management and program analytical methods and practices; performing fact-finding and investigative techniques, cost-benefit analyses, position management, surveys, and work measurement. OR You may substitute successful completion of one year of full-time graduate education for the experience required at the GS-07 level. This education must have been obtained from an accredited college or university and demonstrate the skills necessary to do the work of the position. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. OR You may substitute superior academic achievement for the experience required at the GS-07 level. You must have completed the requirements for a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with either :
(1) class standing in the upper third of a graduating class or major subdivision; or, (2) a grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale based on four years of education or the final two years; or, (3) a grade point average of 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or, (4) membership in a national scholastic honor society. In addition to the requirements at the lower grade level(s), you qualify at the GS-09 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the following duties:
Providing assistance to higher graded analysts by developing background information for studies; researching official documents; compiling and charting statistical data; interviewing employees and supervisors; gathering, summarizing and analyzing information for incorporation into final reports; carrying out specified portions or segments of specific projects; identifying and recommending solutions to problems. OR You may substitute a Master's or equivalent graduate degree or two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in any field or a J.D. or L.L.B. degree for experience required at the GS-9 grade level. Such education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position.
